Tired of dating apps? Making connections beyond the swipe
Not every new connection has to start with a swipe. First ask whether you are looking for a date, a friend or something to do.
If browsing profiles has started to feel like a chore, you do not need to find a supposedly perfect app to keep meeting people. Your next step depends more on the kind of connection you want than on a platform’s ranking. A short break is also a valid choice.
Be honest about what you want
A recurring class, volunteering or a public event can create conversation without a profile. If you want to date, say so; if you want friends, do not imply a romantic intention. Clear expectations respect both people’s time and boundaries.
Compare formats, not promises
A dating app, a local discussion and an organised group serve different purposes. SHOUTR is a social discovery app: DISCOVER introduces nearby people, LIVE hosts a shared local conversation and POP-UP supports spontaneous plans. It is not a guarantee of a partner or a direct replacement for every dating service.
If you hope for a relationship
There is no reliable answer to where everyone finds a partner. Start with a conversation, suggest a low-pressure meeting in a public place, and give each other an easy way to decline. No interface can guarantee compatibility.
When it is about loneliness
Dating is not the only response to feeling isolated. Information and support from MIELI Mental Health Finland and the Finnish Red Cross can be useful alongside friendship and community activities. Ask for professional support if the situation feels heavy.
